It seems that even Satan is subject to God’s bidding (even if he is unaware at the moment)…
[2 Corinthians 12:7] Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself!
[2 Timothy 1:20] Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.
[Job 2:3] The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.
[John 3:15] “Whoever believes in him may have eternal life”
[John 17:3] “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”
“I know what pleasure is,” cried Dorian Gray. “It is to adore someone.” [Oscar Wilde]
“The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever” [Westminster Shorter Catechism, article 1]
“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory” [1 Peter 1:8]
The opposite of love is not hate, for the Christian is to do both. In fact, if you are to love good, without hating evil, you serve two masters, which is an impossible quandary. So in order to properly love God, you must also properly hate the things that might distract you from loving God…
In relation to God, the opposite of love is idolatry.
Recently, a gentleman sought to persuade me that Muslims and Christians worship the same God. I don’t think any orthodox Muslim or Christian would try to convince me of that, because both their respective scriptures describe a deity incompatible with one another. Here’s an example:
Koran…
Bible…
If you claim to be a prophet in the name of God, you best be good at it (like 100% accurate!)
[Deuteronomy 18:22] “When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him”
(IMPORTANT: the office of “Prophet” is not to be confused with the “gift of prophecy” as laid down in 1 Corinthians 14)
On the casting of lots…
“The lot is cast into the lap, but it’s every decision is from the Lord” [Proverbs 16:33]
“And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias, and he was added to the eleven apostles” [Acts 1:26]
